Constructivism is an idea both Piaget and Vygotsky integrated in their theories on child development. But how can we have constructivism and technology in the classroom as the same time?
Constructivism is the idea that children construct their knowledge from their own experiences instead of taking everything as it is presented to them. Vygotsky focused on the social and cultural context of how children construct their own knowledge. Technology plays a large role in how children learn socially as well as cognitively. Doctors at Midwestern State University published an article with their version of how technology is useful and crucial in many areas of Vygotskian teaching. The authors express their beliefs that the best way to encourage language and higher thinking is through technological stimulation.
